About Us

Welcome to BoulianneMED!

We are a small (but mighty) team of two family physicians, located in the heart of Kapuskasing. And yes, we’re married! In fact, we have quite an extensive family of four adult children and (so far) two beautiful grandchildren.

As part of the Kapuskasing and Area Family Health Team, our practice exists under the same roof as other local physicians and health care providers. We love the team of rockstars we work alongside and feel privileged to count ourselves among them.

Dr. Crystal Boulianne

Bonjour! I am a Kapuskasing girl through and through — this community raised me, and my heart belongs here.

Many of you probably remember me from my many years working at our local Canadian Tire store. I returned to school a bit later in life, in 2009, first completing my undergraduate degree in psychology at Lakehead University. I then worked briefly in mental health and addictions, as well as children’s mental health. Following that, I went on to medical school at NOSM on the Sudbury campus. Finally, I completed my Family Medicine residency in Kapuskasing through NOSM’s rural stream.

Fast-forward a few years, and today I have a large comprehensive medical practice. I provide clinic care to people throughout their lifespan. I also practice emergency and hospitalist medicine at Sensenbrenner Hospital in Kapuskasing. I hold a few administrative roles as well — I am the Board Chair of the Kapuskasing and Area Family Health Team, a member of the Medical Advisory Committee, and the Hospitalist Physician Lead at Sensenbrenner Hospital.

My passion is my community. I love Kapuskasing. My decision to return to school and become a doctor was my way of helping my community deal with the physician shortage. It was not my dream to become a doctor — my dream was to give back to my community. I am also passionate about the health of Francophones and addressing language disparities in the health care system. I provide medical care in French and English.

In my spare time, I like to binge-watch whatever series has my curiosity piqued. I love to travel (mostly within Canada) and I love working in my yard in the summertime. I am also the self-proclaimed “queen of karaoke.”

Dr. Pierre Plamondon

Allô! I’m the other half of BoulianneMED.

I’m originally from the small Northern Ontario town of Smooth Rock Falls, but I have spent most of my adult life in Kapuskasing.

Like Crystal, I returned to school after some time in the workforce. I began my career with TransCanada Pipelines and then landed at Agrium Mines, where I worked my way up to HR manager.

When the local mine closed, I had to re-evaluate my career path. I had been taking university courses on-and-off for years, and I decided to hunker down and complete my Bachelor of Generalized Studies though Athabasca University. From there, inspired by Crystal’s path, I moved on to study medicine at NOSM and also completed my Family Medicine residency in Kapuskasing through their rural stream.

Today, you can find me practicing medicine at BoulianneMED, with most of my time spent focusing on geriatric care. I’m currently the Medical Director at both long-term care homes in Kapuskasing, and I’m responsible for patients admitted to the long-term care wing at Sensenbrenner Hospital. Like Crystal, I also regularly practice emergency and hospitalist medicine at Sensenbrenner. Finally, I have a small medical practice and also provide palliative care and addiction care to people in need within the community and surrounding area. I also provide medical care in both official languages.

When I manage to find some personal time in my busy schedule, I enjoy traveling with my wife, exploring new foods, going out to live music events, hunting and snowmobiling.
